Today’s Message

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Maria Goretti – the teenage girl who was raped and beaten but was able to forgive her attacker even at her last breath.

It is beautiful to find out that St. Goretti’s feast day coincides with today’s Gospel by Matthew (9:9-13). It’s about Jesus calling Matthew to follow Him despite his profession of being a tax collector. In this passage, Jesus was also seen eating with the other tax collectors whom the society frowns upon as sinners. And as we all know, Christ was criticized because He mingled with these people. It is comforting to know that this was the time when Jesus made the statement, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

Both stories by Matthew and St. Maria Goretti are an inspiration to me as I celebrate my 23rd birthday today. It brings me peace when I think of birthdays as the yearly flood of not just God’s blessings, but his timeless, boundless mercy and love for each one of us. St. Goretti and Christ show us that forgiveness knows no choices in being given. It is simply free for everyone seeking repentance and conversion, regardless of the past.

That makes my birthday a reason to celebrate not just because of another year given to live, but another chance on God’s mercy and love.

On the lighter side of things, I’d like to inform everyone that I’m way far from being holy and selfless because I’ve come to terms with having my wish list. Hehe! Yes, I know it’s just a ‘wish’, that should keep me from whining if I do not get my way. But hey, ‘wishing’ is free!

1. A laptop – you’re like the boy next door: my chances with you are always futile.

2. Moolah to help me and empoy in starting our rolling-retail-tiangge-mini-business in Makati.

3. A slimmer, healthier figure. I never had problems with weight, yet look now! Hay! katakawan…

4.Β  I’ve always wanted to have a place of my own, yet near to my friends and the community. It just didn’t work out the last time I got the chance to. I hope someday God grants me this one, given that He provides resources too hahah!

5. Last, peace of mind.

Since my post is coming to a close, I’d like to thank my sponsors now. hahaha! Artista! They’re sponsors because they’ve given me valuable resources of time, advice, laughter, stories, and love.

To my family, friends, office mates, my SFC community, and the boyfriend… THANK YOU. I know I only text you guys once in a blue moon, but hey you’re always kept in my heart. Kelan ang surprise party ko?
